"Summit Craters" Tour

Are you ready to conquer the peak of Europe’s highest active volcano? Join us in this great adventure!
The trail by foot will start from Piano Provenzana, on the Northern Side of Etna at 1800 m altitude and will bring you through the most recent lava flows among this area.
You will get to Piano delle Concazze, a vast and fascinating lava plateau at 2800 m altitude full of volcanic products, where you will find the world’s highest Volcanological Observatory, Pizzi Deneri.
Here you will start the impervious but totally fascinating climb up to the very peak of the volcano – the North-Eastern Crater up to 3,326 m above the sea level.
Once on the peak, you will enjoy a stunning panorama from the rooftop of Sicily – the majestic presence of the Summit Craters will surround the breathtaking view extending from the Sicilian hinterland to the Ionic coast, with all their fascinating-colored rocks and minerals. Plus, once there you will be able to listen to the background sound of the gases emitted from Etna – literally, the mountain’s breath.
Then you will start the descent through the Canaloni canyons full of volcanic ash, twisting and turning among the volcanic landscape – until you will get back to Piano Provenzana.
Finally, you will have the chance to taste for free some typical products from the Aetnian area – a unique opportunity to discover our local varieties of honey, wine, oil, and much more!
The tour will last approximately 10 hours.
● Pick up at the hotel at 06.00;
● Trekking from Piano Provenzana along the Northern side of Mount Etna (from 1,800 to 3,326 m a.s.l.) with some breaks at the most beautiful viewpoints of Northern Etna;
● Arrival at Pizzi Deneri and break at the volcanological observatory (2,800 m a.s.l.);
● Trekking along the rim of the summit craters of Mount Etna;
● Descent along the "Canaloni" canyons of volcanic ash;
● Return to Piano Provenzana;
● Optional tasting of some typical local products;
● Return to the hotel.
